The Night Fishing here on the South Holston River has been better than ever , our weather here in East Tennessee has been hot during the daytime hours , TVA has been giving a 2 hour pulse wich has offered us a way in and a way out , The full July BUCK MOON produced the Biggest Wild Brown Trout of the 2026 summer night fishing season on July 28 2026 at 1 am pictured above is Tom from Pennsylvania showing off his new Personal Best World Class 30 inch long SoHo Giant Wild Lady Brown that he caught on a 7 weight fly rod on a Drunk & Disorderly streamer , This Amazing Brown gave a strong fight for Tom and produced the Highest Adrenaline Pump we have ever experienced on any night trip , We estimated her weight to be in the 12 + pound class with this being the Biggest Wild Brown Trout that any guest has ever caught in any of my 3 Hyde Drift Boats in 10 years of guiding , Shout out to @TommyLynch and The Drunk & Disorderly Streamer Flys that continue to provide us with the Ultimate Experience in Major League Fly Fishing here on the Mighty South Holston River .

here on the South Holston River , we have resident wild brown trout and we also have Boone lake run wild browns , at Big Fish SoHo we enjoy catching the resident fish and the Boone lake fish , pictured above is John showing up a super pretty colored up resident buck brown that he caught on a micro articulated streamer fly on July 28 2026 , this beautiful brown has some impressive red spots and a copper tone unlike most browns we catch , congrats to John on this awesome capture .

some nights start off slow and quiet and then there are those nights when the action happens right from the start , pictured above is the birthday guy John showing up his big birthday present with an impressive 26+ inch SoHo Giant Lady Brown that he caught on his 41st birthday night trip , we had a great night with some rain that paused the fishing for a few minutes and then the big bites happened , thanks again for the great memories and Happy Birthday John , cant wait to fish with you again this summer .

The night fishing here on the South Holston River has been excellent so far this summer of 2026 , our weather here in East Tennessee has been hot and humid and wet , recent rounds of heavy thunder storms have given us a generous amount of much needed rain , we have had to reschedule and push back several night fishing trips due to the heavy rain and dangerous lightning , this is typical summer night fishing protocol , if there is one element of mother nature that will stop the night fishing from happening , it is the Lightning , with that said we are in the clear now and the night fishing is fully underway again ,
when some anglers think about night fishing for Trophy Class Wild Brown Trout, they sometimes automatically think " Mouse " , here on the South Holston River when we night fish , it is not all about the Mouse , often times we fish with what always works , every damn time , time after time , over and over , pictured above is Michael ( a repeat guest ) showing up his best wild brown from our night trip on 7- 17-2026, this Magnificent full figure lady brown pushed a lot of water when she " Ate the Drunk " and she gave a strong pullback and high adrenaline pump at the finish line for Michael , we had a great night where the fishing started off slow untill it started to rain and when the rain stopped the streamer bite turned on , , the Streamer fished right at night out fishes the Mouse 10 to 1 , shout out to @TommyLynch and the Drunk & Disorderly Streamer Fly's that continue to provide us with the Ultimate Experience in Major League Fly Fishing here on the Mighty South Holston River .

its not every night that i have a Fisheries Biologist onboard , in fact it has only happened twice in 10 years , pictured above is Brian from Idaho who is a Fisheries Biologist and an Expert on Rainbow Trout and Arguably the Largest Rainbow Trout Farmer in North America , we had a great night of Fly Fishing with Micro Articulated Streamers with some Stimulating Conversations about Trout Management and Farming Fish , it was nice to fish with you again Brian , thanks for the Great Memories and Nice Fish , , , oh so close to 20 inches , hah well done .

The Night Fishing here on the South Holston River has been excellent so far this summer , our night fishing program is fully underway , we have had a dry spring up untill recently there has been very little to no rain for most of the spring , East Tennessee is at a -5 inch rain deficit and currently in a drought , thankfully we just had over an inch of much needed rain, unfortunately this recent rain has stalled out several recent night fishing trips and we are on the mend now and the night fishing is underway again , TVA was giving some ideal shut off times up untill this recent rain , we are hoping for more of the same asap , we have had to reschedule several night trips already due to the current late generation schedule / shut offs and the tributary runoff of dirty rain water ,
the recent weather here in East Tennessee during the mid day hours has been Hot with over night lows in the mid 60's - 70 degrees , with the recent daytime summer temps reaching the mid 90's , we are thankful and grateful for the night fishing program during the Hot summer months , it has been 5 years of night fishing only for me and i cant imagine being out in the Scorching Summer Sun in a drift boat frying like a fish in a hot pan , no thanks ! i retired from daytime bobber watching and bug fishing back in 2022 and never looked back !

often times when we night fish the same beats / pools , we sometimes catch the same wild brown trout multiple times as an Adult fish ,season after season in the same exact spots , this is one of the reasons why we take pictures of our trophy class fish , we collect the data on Annual growth rates and other related data for our catch reports for the TWRA , this brown pictured above was first caught back in late Summer of 2024 when he was 18 inches long , he was just caught again in the same exact spot by me pictured above on a recent night trip , he is now a full 21 inches long and i believe he is a resident native to the pool fish , the field data shows an impressive growth of 3 inches in 20 months , really fun to be able to identify repeat offenders and see some of these Trophy Size Wild Browns grow through out the years here on the Mighty South Holston River .

as we approach the July 4 holiday , the heat is on for alot of trout fisheries across America , the warm water threats and warnings are in place , hoot owl restrictions and no fishing signs are posted online and on the rivers , mid to high 60's water temps are the cutoff for trout fishing in most places , here on the South Holston River , we have year round Consistent cold water flows of 52 degrees wich really never poses any of the warm water threats that other rivers and streams face , a big shout out to the Tennessee fisheries biologists for managing the SoHo at the highest level , our year round cold water rights and the Sport Fish Restoration Act combined with the cooperation from the TVA are a big reason why we have some of the best managed wild brown trout in North America .
